Sydney Symphony Orchestra – 50 Fanfares

by lylechan on February 21, 2020

Update, April 2020: Due to Covid-19, the performances in August by Sydney Symphony Orchestra of this work have been cancelled and a new set of dates will be announced as soon as possible.

I am so thrilled and humbled to be one of the 50 composers commissioned by Sydney Symphony Orchestra in its ambitious 50 Fanfares program. I get to compose an overture for orchestra that will be one of the very first of them to be performed, so it is even more of an honour and maybe a little daunting. When the dates and venues are publicly released, I will put them in my website calendar, but for now, I can say it will be heard by NSW cities beyond Sydney, which is very exciting. Sydney Symphony has wholeheartedly committed to this new repertoire in playing them widely with multiple performances, recordings and championing them to orchestras abroad – bravo! My heartfelt thanks to Emma Dunch, Raff Wilson, Sam Torrens and Alastair McKean at Sydney Symphony for the vision and sheer hard work it took over the past 18 months to get the project to this stage.

Here is the Sydney Symphony’s official webpage where you can see the list of all 50 composers.
