World premiere of Double Double Bass
in a concert called Bass Extravaganza: Romance of the double bass
Join two of Australia’s most dynamic double bass players, Kees Boersma and Kirsty McCahon, as they explore the sonorous world of the instrument through the ages. Taking Anton Chekhov’s 1886 romantic comedy Romance with a double bass as their muse, they illuminate the text with music traditionally associated with this instrument. From the earthy drones that underpin the music of all cultures, through the glory of Bach, the technical luminosity of Bottesini, the adventurous tones of 20th-century America and Australia’s own Elena Kats-Chernin, they explore through the full range of this most beautiful, voluptuous and and misunderstood instrument.
The concert will be preceded by a champagne reception and a private exhibition viewing at the Gallery. Doors open at 7pm. Concert commences at 8pm. This event will be held in the entrance court in cabaret style seating.
